Details of AID's Funding

Based on the Vision and Strategy described in the previous section, AID has funded several rehabilitation efforts in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The details are given in the tables below, including the Intermediate & Long-term Rehabilitation and the Immediate Relief.  The total funding so far has been $1.88 million.


In Tamil Nadu, our projects are running in 120 villages, reaching out to about 12,000 families. In Andhra Pradesh, our projects have benefited about 1600 families in 31 villages.

Fisherpeople’s Rehabilitation Provided with loans to purchase boats and nets, organized women into self help groups, formed cooperatives to facilitate fair marketing. $  211,600
Andaman & Nicobar Islands Intermediate Rehabilitation Reconstruction of damaged houses in the islands. Provided with food and relief kits. Purchased boats and engines in Nicobars. $   30,000

Formed a supply chain of trucks collecting and distributing relief materials. The relief materials included food, clothing, books, toys etc. Constructed temporary shelters for the tsunami survivors. $  310,000
Kanyakumari A boat repair center was set up in Kootapalli to repair boats. $    25,000

Andhra Pradesh

Nellore Provided food and clothes for 780 families in the district $    22,000
Andaman & Nicobar Islands Port Blair Provided basic necessities including food, clothing, and organized health camps. $   20,000
