Huge quake hits Nicobar,  AID in touch with partners

Chennai, July 24. An earthquake of magnitude 7 in the Richter scale was reported at 9:12 p.m. IST in the Nicobar Islands at a depth of 10 kms according to the U.S. Geographical Survey.

 

AID has been in touch with its partners on the ground and will keep the community informed. 

The USGS website cited a major earthquake had occurred at 15:42:05 UTC on Sunday.

The magnitude 7 event has been located at north of the Nicobar Island, the website said.

The exact site was located at 35 kms West of Misha and, Nicobar, and 420 km South of Port Blair, Andaman.
