DONATING MATERIALS IN INDIA

Relief materials still continue to be sent to needy places. Apart from that, we need the following to engage children in various activities.

Sports/games equipments
Cricket bats, balls, footballs, carom boards, rackets, chess boards, tennicoits, Frisbees, toys, board games etc

Stationery
Pens, notebooks, pencils, geometry boxes, colour pencils, crayons, painting kits, black boards and school bags

Please remember to call us before you buy or send us anything.

We are also looking for organizations interested in purchasing boats and nets. Please contact the AID Chennai office for an updated list, as the specific items within this broad category keep changing.

Please donate materials at your local city collection point. Most of our staff in Chennai are actively involved in relief work. If you are not from Chennai, please contact your local city AID collection office.

VOLUNTEERING IN INDIA.

Volunteer response has been tremendous. We appreciate the concern and eagerness many volunteers from foreign countries and those from non-Tamil speaking backgrounds have shown. But henceforth, we would like only those who can converse in Tamil, unless they have specific skill to offer. In such cases, they can volunteer after a detailed discussion with coordinators in Chennai.

We request the volunteers visiting us to kindly keep the following in mind

• Those who can afford, please bear the accommodation, food and travel expenses, as this is adding to a huge overhead cost which we are unable to handle.
  
• Strictly no smoking and drinking either in the office premises or in the company of villagers and volunteers.
  
• Kindly avoid wearing sleeveless and very short dresses as this might offend the villagers.
  
• Please ensure you are on time for meetings, pick up etc., at our offices or the field

FIELD REQUIREMENTS

We only need volunteers who can speak Tamil, and can stay atleast for 7 days. Exceptions can be made for people willing to spend a much longer period (like a month or 2 months) and with specific skills such as boat repairing or construction.

CHENNAI VOLUNTEERS

If you are volunteering in Chennai, then we have the following teams set in place for the immediate relief work:

1. Collection and Information Team: This team will handle calls, receive donations of money, clothes, medicines, blankets and vessels and send receipts, give information on the current status of relief work.  This team will also give out press releases, send out email reports and call for further donations based on the needs.  This is the team that people from outside must contact.

2. Allocation and Distribution: This team will get the needs from various field locations, sort the materials collected, divide it up for different locations based on the need and send it to the field coordinators for distribution.

3. Field Team: In each area we have a team of volunteers who will be coordinating the relief efforts and distribution of materials.
